New Years Resolutions

As we welcome 2020 and enter a new decade, there’s been a lot of pressure around setting goals, setting intentions and of course, getting your New Years resolutions in order.

Personally, New Year’s resolutions can seem overrated and overwhelming. I used to do it every year and I stopped doing it because, to be VERY honest, I never followed through with them. I would make this big fuss about writing them down and getting ready for the new year and how all this shit was going to change, and it never happened. So, I stopped making resolutions that were focused on starting things in the new year. I do make a list of the things I’d like to accomplish and I write down my goals and what I’d like to do within the year, but I don’t really wait for the new year to start something (if I don’t have to).

I was talking to my partner about this and he said the following: “Resolutions let us sit stagnant with no actual date for it to be tackled” and I definitely agree. Sometimes resolutions are just you writing down the things you’d like to start, the things you’d like to get done, but if you don’t have a plan of action, a timeline, or a guide on how you want to get those things done, where does that leave your resolution?

My main goal at the end of the year is to always show gratitude for my accomplishments and blessings along with acknowledging the things that might not have gone my way and the lessons I learned from them. I like to go into the new year with good and clean energy. I am not someone that believes that all your troubles are gone because it’s a New Year, but I firmly believe in going into the year with genuine intentions, good energy and with peace.

I also make sure I eat my 12 grapes when the clock strikes 12AM lol. Can’t mess with tradition now.

I signed up for a newsletter a little while back that’s written by the amazing Lula. In her newsletter from October 22nd, she sent out a really important message that further solidified my reasoning on why I don’t set resolutions or wait for the new year to start working on the things I want and desire. I really loved the way she explained why it’s important to motivate yourself to start working towards your goals NOW and not when the new year comes around. I walked into 2020 feeling SO motivated, blessed and accomplished because of the fact that I did not wait to start my blog, I did not wait to start sharing and I didn’t wait for validation or for the approval of others on what I’m working on. I didn’t wait to get my ideas down on paper. I did not wait, that’s the point!

I hope 2020 brings everyone all the blessings and accomplishments they deserve and have worked hard for.

I have my eyes set on what I will be achieving and overcoming and that alone makes me feel so good about 2020.
