Brooklyn Beso

Brooklyn Beso

My girl friends and I were looking for a bite to eat after stopping by Spike Lee’s “Do The Right Thing” block party and this was one of the first places that popped up in my maps and the food look delish.

Located in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, Beso is a pan-latin restaurant that serves Latin-inspired dishes while creating an energetic and fun vibe while you’re there.

Drinks

Normally drinks are served quickly after you sit down, it’s one of the first things they ask you. It took us some time to be tended to after we sat down and it took roughly 20 min to get the drinks once we ordered. At this point we were okay, we were talking and enjoying the music so we weren’t too caught up in the drink wait time.

We all got different flavored margaritas, mine was a Hennessy margarita, as seen below. The drink was super refreshing, not strong but not a weak drink either. Perfect combo.

We all only got one drink, it wasn’t a turn up lunch situation for us.

Appetizers

The word “tapas” originate from Spain and they’re known as small, bite size dishes that you eat while you’re at a bar.

I ordered the Chipotle Chicken Arepas and I WISH they were full sized. Not only was the masa for the arepa sweet and soft, the way I love it, but the way it meshed with the chipotle and pico de gallo on the chicken was something to die for.

The arepas was definitely my favorite part of my experience at this restaurant. I need them again, ASAP.

Meal

After getting the tapas, we realized that it wasn’t enough to fill us up and we needed to order an actual meal. We kept going back and forth trying to figure out what we wanted and if we wanted to wait for food.

We all ordered different things, I ended up getting fish tacos, as seen below.

It was four of us, and two out of the four meals came out first. I’m not sure if anyone else was raised like this but I was always told it’s rude to start eating at the table if everyone doesn’t have their food. So we waited….and waited. Roughly 20-30 min went by and the rest of the food came out.

By the time I started eating, my tacos were a bit cold and did not taste the best, so much time had already passed that I didn’t even want to eat them anymore.

I ate one of the two and let it be, the rest of the girls basically felt the same. We had waited so long for our food that by the time we got it, we just didn’t want to eat anymore.

They were delicious and if you like spicy this is definitely a great option for you, but again after waiting for so long my hunger was shot.

Service

If you couldn’t tell through out reading, I keep referencing the service given at this restaurant.

I really normally do not complain, especially not in the moment since they are dealing with my food and drinks but my goodness, this was the worst service I think I’ve gotten…EVER.

The wait times for everything was ridiculous and the restaurant seemed either understaffed or just busier than what they’re used. One thing I know for a fact is that everyone there felt almost the same way.

They make up for their wait times through the food and the drinks but if you do not have patience and like fast service, this is definitely not the spot for you.

My number one recommendation for this spot is to order everything at once, as it can take some time to get everything.

Vibe

I’m not sure if they always have a DJ playing a set but the music was on point and so was the ambiance.

This is honestly what made me want to stay and wait for anything, solely the music. He was playing a little bit of Salsa, Merengue, and some Bachata. The DJ then switched the vibe up to some Reggae, Soca and finally some good old R&B.

The music, the art, and the energy was definitely what saved my personal experience in this spot.

If it wasn’t for those three vital things I really don’t think that I would have enjoyed myself the way I did.

Also, girl chat. Talking with your girls is the best and you can easily lose track of time when you’re deep in convo.

Overall Experience..

My experience was not the best but also not the worst.

You definitely need to be patient and not in a rush to grab a bite here, but the food is worth it.

I’m sure that if I was in a rush or had to be somewhere by a certain time, I’d be singing a different song.

It’s definitely worth checking out, the food is delicious, the music is amazing and the staff is super friendly and nice.
