Mom's Kitchen
After a night out of drinking and fun, food was the first thing on our minds. The following morning we were staying in Astoria, so I Googled places to eat nearby and Mom’s Kitchen was on the list
Quirky and fun to step into, this restaurant gave me all the feels I used to have of being in my mom’s kitchen.
Mom’s Kitchen & Bar is this super adorable restaurant that is a perfect Sunday brunching option.
**There is another location in Hell’s Kitchen for those that don’t like to travel.
Drinks
Alcohol was absolutely not in the plans after all we had to drink the night before, plus that wasn’t really the vibe we were in that day. We both ended up getting pink lemonade.
Their drink menu, though, was super fun and every drink sounded like something I would want to have. I definitely have to go back for the drinks.
Some of the drinks come with little floating duckies or other toys in them which is really fun and plays on the theme of the restaurant.
Below is a picture of the drink menu.
What we ate..
There were so many options on the menu so we went back and forth for a minute trying to decide what we really wanted and what mood we were in.
I ended up having the Chicken and Bacon Waffle and he had the Pancake Burrito (very interesting by the way).
I was a little iffy on what I had gotten since it had the bacon in the waffle, mainly because I had stopped eating pork recently (hardest shit I’ve done, along with red meat) and I’ve never had something like that before. I also requested for the cheesy sauce to be on the side rather than on the chicken..something else I cut back on drastically that has been so so hard but rewarding, that’s a conversation for another day.
Anyways, the food was delicious, the chicken was just the right amount of juicy and the cheesy sauce on the side was so much better. I feel like if it was on top of the waffles and chicken it would have been too much (for me). I liked the option of dipping my chicken in it and it also allowed me to use maple syrup if I wanted to on my waffles.
I didn’t get a chance to sneak a bite off of his plate, but he did say his Pancake Burrito was delicious and that he’d get it again.
The presentation isn’t the prettiest but it doesn’t really matter when the food is that good.
Experience
The staff was really friendly and helpful when we had questions about certain foods and explaining what certain things were.
The service was fast and efficient (thank goodness) and again, everyone was really polite and friendly.
What made the experience so great was all the nostalgic items they had in the restaurant. Old lunch boxes, rubber duckies, Marvel toys and I can go on.
I definitely recommend stopping by because I will definitely be going back to try their drinks and other items on the food menu.
